The BGSO
Based at Birmingham Conservatoire, The BGSO performs on average 4 concerts a year, interspersed with occasional appearances and workshops at community events, such as Birmingham Pride and Queer Carolling.
Who can join the BGSO
In a nutshell, anyone and everyone! As long as we have a vacancy within the orchestra, we allow musicians of all abilities and backgrounds. The only things we ask is that you are over 16 years of age, and can commit to the majority of rehearsals. Many of our members hadn't played their instrument in years before joining the BGSO, but now they practise daily! A large proportion of the BGSO are students, currently studying at Birmingham Conservatoire, or one of the nearby universities. Others are professional musicians or music teachers who enjoy the friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere the BGSO offers. Details of current vacancies are listed below. If you are interested in joining the BGSO, get in touch with us via the "Contact Us" page.
Rehearsals tend to happen every 2 weeks at Birmingham Conservatoire - check out our events calendar for information about forthcoming rehearsals. Whilst we don't ask for a minimum standard, we do ask that each player can commit to the majority of rehearsals.
